Settings Reference
Every setting, in the order you meet it. The defaults given are what a fresh install starts with.
Appearance
| Setting | What it does |

| Message Duration | How long the app’s short messages stay on screen. |
GPS Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|
| Tracking Mode | High Precision for the best accuracy and the heaviest battery use, Balanced for most work, or Battery Saver. It takes effect at once. |
| Minimum Accuracy for Data Capture | Photos, videos and features are only recorded while the GPS error is inside this distance. The default is 5 m. A smaller figure asks more of the signal, and the map’s accuracy indicator turns green once capture is allowed. |
| Maximum Photo/Video Grouping Distance | Photos and videos taken this close together are shown as one group on the map. The default is 25 m. |
Coordinates
| Setting | What it does |
|---|
| Coordinate Format | Decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds or UTM, everywhere a coordinate is shown or copied. |
| Coordinate Order | Latitude first or longitude first, in the formats where it makes a difference. |
| Include Altitude | Add the altitude to the coordinates on screen. A separate switch decides whether it goes along when you copy them. |
| Unit System | Metric or imperial for distances, areas and accuracy. |
Drawing Colours
The colours for the point symbol, lines, polygons, the GPS track, and the photo and video markers. The same ones are used on the map, in the toolbars, in the editors and in the QGIS styles you export.
Map Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|
| Default Map Zoom | The zoom level the map opens at. |
| Multiple shots per capture | Off, which is the default: one photo or video, then straight back to the map. On: the camera stays open after each save so you can take more angles, with a chip counting what you have saved. Tap Back to return to the map. |
| Side Tools Position | Which edge holds the map tools drawer in portrait and the zoom buttons in landscape. The destination distance pill goes to the opposite side. |
Storage & Cache
| Setting | What it does |
|---|
| Trash | Deleted items are kept for 30 days, and you can restore them or delete them for good. |
| Map Cache | How much space the tiles you have viewed online are taking up, from the built-in basemap and any tile services you added, with Clear beside it. Anywhere you looked at online will draw offline from this cache; once you clear it, those tiles are fetched again the next time you have a connection. MBTiles basemaps are left alone. |
Photo & Video
| Setting | What it does |

| Photo Resolution / Photo Quality | The size of the shot and the JPEG quality. Lower settings save storage. |
| Embed GPS location in photos | Writes the position into the photo file’s EXIF as well as into the database. |
| Record audio with video | Turn it off and video is recorded silently, with no need for the microphone permission. |
Camera Settings
| Setting | What it does |

| Grid Overlay | Nothing, the rule of thirds, or a crosshair in the viewfinder. |
| Self-timer | How long to wait before the shutter fires. |
| Video Resolution | The recording resolution. Lower settings save storage. |
| Orientation Lock | Holds the camera in one orientation. |
Photo Watermark
Stamp each photo with the survey name, the time, the coordinates and, if you like, a logo. The format, the position, the text colour and which of these appear are all set on the Watermark screen. The original photo is kept beside the watermarked one.

Forms tab
The second tab of Settings is the Forms designer, where you create and edit survey forms and preview them. Active Forms is where you give one form to each asset type: points, lines, polygons, photos, videos. That is the only place assignment happens, and any form can go to any type. See Survey Forms.
